Parks and Recreation Masterplan
Shaping the Future of Recreation: Building Tomorrow's Parks Today
The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is developing a Parks and Recreation Masterplan to guide the direction of parks, recreation, and facilities over the next 10 years. The Town retained the Toronto-based landscape architecture and planning firm thinc design to lead the project.
Niagara-on-the-Lake’s parks and recreation services are loved by residents and visitors alike, offering well-maintained green spaces, diverse recreational opportunities, and a strong sense of community. Given their significant role in enhancing quality of life, it is important to develop a comprehensive Masterplan to ensure the Town’s parks and facilities continue to meet the community’s evolving needs, fostering a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive environment for generations to come.
Active community participation is crucial to the plan’s success, ensuring it reflects the values and priorities of those who use these spaces. Based on public input, the Plan may include revitalized park spaces, upgraded facilities, new programming, and other improvements.
Public Engagement
Over the past year, the Town’s consultant team has worked to develop the draft Masterplan using feedback gathered during Phase One of public engagement. Phase Two, held in the summer of 2025, invited residents to review the draft and continue shaping the Plan through additional engagement opportunities.
The Masterplan outlines a long-term vision for revitalized parks, enhanced recreation services, and expanded programming. It will guide investment and planning decisions for years to come, ensuring that public spaces continue to reflect the community’s needs and values.
The consultants are now reviewing and incorporating feedback from Phase Two, with the final Parks and Recreation Masterplan scheduled to be presented to Council at the Committee of the Whole – General Meeting on November 11, 2025.
