Driving revenue

It will be great if we explore some ideas that will drive revenue and tourism.  I always feel that the old town Queen Street area has not totally reached out its potential.  I know there is an initiative of exploring the idea of a pedestrian mall.  I wonder whether we can do a few test pilots.  Such as in the summer time, closed the downtown for pedestrian only in the weekend and threw a few events...from food truck to music events.  Or during the Christmas month, do a Christmas market similar to the one in TO distillery district.  Tourists like going to places that have lots of things to do.  Parking wise, can the old hospital parking site be re-designed to take on more parkings?  Along King Street, Queen Street and some other areas... if the parking can be re-designed so people parking perpendicular to the street, we can increase more parking revenues.

At the moment, the residents own the town - just ... the gifts to us are history, inc great historical housing etc and natures bounty. We have, strawberry, cherry, peach and wine festivals which enable us to celebrate our town with visitors. We still have a few downtown stores that locals can use. We have a Chamber of commerce which attempts to balance our needs with the desires of tourists. The absolute revenue myth comes with costs - some obvious, others not so obvious but with long term implications eg how to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. We don't NEED more tourism - we may need to do better at what we already do, but more is not the answer
